Música de Natal / Christmas Carol

Olá queridas leitoras e sejam bem-vindos os novos membros!
Hi, lovely readers and welcome to new members!

Monique Urquhart do blogue A Half-Baked Notion tem estado a partilhar canções de Natal e inspirou-me a fazer o mesmo.
Monique Urquhart of A Half-Baked Notion has been sharing Christmas carols on her blog and I've enjoyed them so much that I'm sharing my favourite too.

A minha canção de Natal preferida é Noite Feliz. Da música portuguesa, a canção de que gosto mais é A Todos um Bom Natal. Da música tradicional, uma das preferidas é o Natal de Elvas ou Eu Hei-de Dar ao Menino.
My favourite Christmas song is Silent Night. My favourite Portuguese Christmas song is A Todos Um Bom Natal from the 70's. From the traditional songs, I absolutely love this one.

Natal de Elvas                   Christmas in Elvas

Eu hei-de dar ao Menino          I must give the Child
Uma fitinha p’ró chapéu.          A little ribbon for His hat
Também Ele me há-de dar,         And He also must give me
Um lugarzinho no céu.          A little place in the sky.

Olhei para o Céu        I looked towards the sky,
Estava estrelado,       It was starry,
Vi o Deus Menino           I saw the Child God
Em palhas deitado,        Lying on straw
Em palhas deitado         Lying on straw
Em palhas estendido      Bedded on straw
Filho duma Rosa,    Son of a Rose
Dum Cravo nascido.         Born from a Carnation.

Ai, o Menino que nasceu     In Virgin Mary's bosom
Da Virgem cheia de graça            The divine grace became incarnate
Entrou e saiu por ela                  It entered and went out through her
Como o sol pela vidraça.            Like the sun through the windowpane.

Arre burriquito            Giddy up, little donkey
Vamos a Belém,         Let's go to Bethlehem
A ver o Menino           To see the Child
Que a Senhora tem,           Whom the lady has,
Que a Senhora tem,           Whom the lady has,
Que a Senhora adora,            Whom the lady adores,
Arre burriquito,              Giddy up, little donkey
Vamo-nos embora.           Let us get started.

From the Christmas coloured beads I won in Siobhán Keogh's giveawayI made a handbag charm. I just added the clip, the chain and the angel charm. I love it and I'm keeping it for myself. Thank you Siobhán!

Feliz Natal!
Merry Christmas!

  2. "Silent Night" is one my favorites, too, which we sing every year at Midnight Mass in both French and English, as our parish is bilingual. I imagine it being sung all around the world, in so many languages, on that special night :)

Thank you for the perfect little video... of course I had to listen twice. The first time I was busy watching the children's faces, the little girls mostly so earnestly singing, the little boys full of mischief and looking all around. HaHa children are the same everywhere, and Christmas concerts are usually so entertaining, not only for the sweet music, but the antics of the little ones. The second time I listened, I was able to follow the translation (as I unfortunately don't understand Portuguese) and marvel at the beautiful imagery of the flowers and the sun piercing the window. So very moving!

Your handbag charm is a pretty reminder of a blogging friend... the beads won are so very special to us, aren't they, Ana?

Hope your Christmas is filled with many Blessings... Merry Christmas, Joyeux Noël!
